Arcadia is a city in the San Gabriel Valley at the base of
the San Gabriel Mountains. It is the site of the Santa Anita Park racetrack and
home to the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. Arcadia has
experienced a tremendous demographic shift from uniformly Caucasian 30 years
ago to 45% Asian. The transformation is linked to a rapid increase in wealth in
Asian countries such as Taiwan, China, Korea and Hong Kong, which has led to
the immigration of many Asians to countries like the United States. Operating
out of its own school district, Arcadia Unified School District, outside of the
LAUSD, Arcadia offers excellent public schools in the eyes of appraisers. Since
the early 1990s, a growing number of Taiwanese-oriented businesses have been
appearing along and around Baldwin Avenue, due south of Huntington Drive, with
a 99 Ranch Market, Arcadia Supermarket, and the especially popular Taiwan-based
Din Tai Fung dumpling restaurant Arcadia.
